Navigating Life with the Right GPS

Do you use a GPS device to get directions? Are you getting accurate information?
The other day, I was taking my wife to a doctor’s appointment in McKinney. I was using Waze on my phone, and she was using Google Maps on hers. As I was driving, Waze directed me to take the next exit, while Google Maps suggested staying on the highway. Both systems had the same address, so I was confused about which one to follow. I missed the exit and ended up with conflicting directions. Eventually, we called the doctor’s office, and the receptionist gave us completely different directions.
This experience made me think about the accuracy of the information we receive and the choices we make. I had to decide which GPS device to trust. I turned off Waze and followed Google Maps. My wife was stressed about being late, and her stress began to affect me too.
This situation is similar to our spiritual journey. We need to choose the right guidance system to reach our final destination. The prophet Jeremiah warned us about false prophets in Jeremiah 23:21, those giving out wrong information: God said, “I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.” Many preachers today are on the right highway but going in the wrong direction. They preach what they have heard from others without fully understanding it.
I once drove on Interstate 5 in Washington state, a route I had taken many times. After stopping at a gas station, I got back in my car and entered the highway, I accidentally drove in the wrong direction for miles. Everything looked familiar, but I was headed the wrong way. Similarly, many preachers today are leading people in the wrong direction with memorized sermons that lack true understanding. The way looks familiar, but they are headed the wrong way. Many of them are speaking in ‘rote.’ Rote is a memorized process using routine or repetition of what they have heard someone else preach and they are quoting what they have heard other preachers say, but often without full thought to what they are saying and often without comprehension. The path they are on seem familiar, but they are going the wrong way.
Some preachers are using the Devil's Guidance System (DGS) instead of God’s Plan of Salvation (GPS). The difference lies in which device you choose to use. Isaiah 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
Reflect on the guidance systems you are using in your life. Are you following the right path? Take a moment to evaluate the sources of your information and ensure they align with your spiritual goals.
